- Day Two - On to Elko
Heading east to Elko, the mountains start getting
bigger...
And bigger.
Some prime deer hunting territory here.
These thistles are found around road sides. I have tried
growing these from seed before and never had any luck.
First stop in Elko is the Chamber of Commerce, located in the
transplanted Sherman Station.
This is worth visiting. Lots of photos, out buildings and
exhibits.

Some info about Sherman Station
A picture of the original school house.
Inside the restored schoolhouse.
About the school house.
I should have guessed there was a Governor Sparks at one time.
Anyone want to buy a Spring Wagon?
Enough of this. Time to find the hotel.
I see the room reserved at the Best Western and groan. Right
next to the vending machines and the ice machine.
This is going to be just wonderful. Debbie goes up and checks
it out. She informs me we are staying.
This place looks more like a suite! Debbie says this room is
only $88.00. I look at the room rates on the
wall and they say $188.00. Debbie says the room is
$88.00........it helps to be chatty with the receptionist,
and be in the middle of the week, and have a Nevada driver's
license.
This was a very nice room and I didn't hear the ice machine once.
Didn't hear the gazillion kids here for the local sporting tournaments
either.
Dinner was at a Basque restaurant called 'The Star'. It was
very good. I would suggest getting there early.
Very Early.
When you leave the restaurant, walk a block or two east and you will
see some fine examples of local entertainment.
