Belmont,
Nevada - Some of the Ruins
Before heading out in
the morning for Bishop, we decided to drive south and east a mile or
two and look at another
one of the ruins and some of the miner's cabins.

The haze in the background is from the fires burning in Northern
California.

I liked the building so I got a
number of perspectives.
![Barrel Straps](images/b3.jpg)
I knew Nevada had a Shoe Tree, But I did not
know it had a Barrel Strap Tree

These are a few pictures of Miner's cabins. They were all
quite small.
![Tailings](images/b13.jpg)
Lots of tailings here. We find some nice mineral samples here.

A couple abandoned mines.
![The Tallest Mountain in Nevada](images/b17.jpg)
Leaving Belmont, we
paused to take a picture of the tallest mountain in Nevada and guess
what I also happened to find?
![Cacti](images/b15.jpg)
I used the opportunity to liberate a couple pads.
![Witch Weed](images/b24.jpg)
In the same area we ran into Witch Weed, or Dodder.
The Latin name is Cuscuta.
![Cuscuta](images/b25.jpg)
It is a strange looking parasitic plant which envelops the host and
sucks it dry.
Not a sunset photo, but it is orange!
