Flora
and Fauna of Berlin, Nevada
The
reason
for going to Berlin was to visit Ichthyosaur, something we'd
been meaning to do for quite a few years.
Berlin was supposed to be just a footnote but it turned out to be the
other way around.

These are not rattlesnakes! These are gopher snakes.
Do not turn these into snake pancakes. Case in Point

Fence lizards are easy to photograph early in the morning when they are
still warming up.

Leopard lizards have a grip which is on par with that of a pit bull and
they will hold onto fingers, ears, ball caps
for hours. Before there were earrings for boys,
these made an interesting and rather alarming substitute.
Leopard lizards feed on just about anything that moves and sometimes
their eyes get too big for their
mouths.

Horned lizards will eat red ants, so consider them a friend.

I think this is Prince Something or Other. I am not much good
at identifying wild flowers.

Leopard lizards are quite wary. Best times to photograph them
is early in the morning while it is still cool.

These Horned lizards really blend in with the territory.

Thistles found along the side of the road.

The blooms on this cactus are more star-shaped than any I have.
It looks like there is a spare pad available.

These flowers lined the side of the road in areas. They seem
to like disturbed soil and they are eye catching
out in in the middle of the desert.
