May 2009 - The Yard, Washoe Lake Etc, Part 1

Where's the Treat

TC, looking for that long lost treat.  The black netting is a favorite roll around and scratch pad.

Stuck

It's alsp a great way to get stuck.

Grub

This attractive creature I think is a Darkling Beetle grub.  I find these around rose roots. I took this down to the supposed experts at the local nursery and they said it was the larvae of a Jerusalem Cricket...........lot of help that was.

Rose Hedge

The rose hedge is getting revamped this year and these are the latest additions:

An alert guardian of the yard who recently discovered Alligator Lizards

Crab

Native

A native whose name a always fail to remember.

Cactus

My pad from the Haiwee reservoir several years later.

Crab

This crab is still hanging in there

Crab

The oldest Crab

Wild Flower Bed

This year the wild flower bed is getting bird netting, a whole bunch of seeds and more mulch.

Native

Another native shrub in bloom.

Native

May is a good time of year for blooming native shrubery.

Desert Peach

Desert Peach after a rain storm - a rare sight (rain, not the desert peach).

Hmmmm

"Should I pee on this or shouldn't I?"

Blue Elderberry

This Blue Elderberry is one of the first to bloom.  I am thinking about taking some suckers and growing them further out back as a bush. They seem to have no trouble with the climate.

Mystery

The latest mystery plant.  I think I may have picked this up from Iowa or Kansas. It certainly wintered over nicely.
Anyone have an idea as to what this is?
