After meditating a bit I came up with a brand new plan. This is going to involve being a bit more professional with the subject at hand. I am going to add sacrificial blanks to each end of the turning and cut everything down to the same size. I am going to properly align these pieces. And I am going to do a much better clamping job. This is not funny any more. In the meantime, I am going to do a little practicing. This is a piece of Paduak, a hard reddish wood from Africa. Might as well add some inlay. Let's try something soft, like Malachite. This is actually working out rather well. About time. Measurements are right in there at 7.25" I used a power sander to cut off the tail. That's about as far as I dare go with the other end. I'll use a saw to cut it off. One Paduak Hair Stick. Ought to look good in dark brown or black hair. Failing that, it would make a great defensive weapon for close quarters combat. |
