- Day Three - Bandon and Vicinity
We originally planned on staying in Grant's Pass, Oregon for a day then
head over to the coast but since there was so much smoke
from fires in the area, we decided to head directly over to
the coast.
Ten hours later we are in Bandon.
This is where we are staying this time around. The house to
the left is on the market for 4.5 million dollars.
I would say that is a bit over priced for the area. It would
seem for that price, you would have a staircase to the
beach, which you don't........ and lets talk about air conditioning:
You would think a 4.5 million dollar home would sport an air
conditioner in a little bit better condition than this, and
be mounted on a permanent foundation.
Hmmm, this guy looks kind of familiar.
Bandon Boatworks is one of the better places to eat in town and it is
reasonably priced. To get there, instead of exiting town,
head east along the shore for half a mile or so. To
the
left you will see a senior citizen's retirement center. Turn
right
and follow the road a couple blocks, where you will find the restaurant.
It sports a nice view of the ocean and of the Bandon Lighthouse, which
is currently undergoing a face lift.
You might be able to pick up this little fixer-upper for
about
$250.000. Yes, that is right. I didn't add an extra
zero.
For those who like to ride horses, a tour is available.
It usually starts a couple miles south of town, goes along the beach
for several miles and loops back.
However, it has been a long day. Nice to set back and watch
the sunset...
And enjoy the scenery.
Nice sunsets out here.
The following morning was low tide for practically the entire year.
This is a sand shrimp.
.
The tide is really out today.
This looks like a good place to find interesting sea critters.
We have the common,
The not so common,
The unusual,
The strange (this is a worm),
And the downright bizarre. At first I thought this was a crab
eating a worm. It is the other way around.
I nice photo of a chiton.
Low tide. Don't let the real estate brochures fool you.
This is a rarity.
It usually looks more like this.
Or this.
Or this.
Walking back up from the beach, one gets to observer the corrosive
effects of what it is like living next to the ocean.
Something to keep in mind when searching out that 'ideal' beach front
property.
Time to go check out some of the other attractions.
