Point Lobos is definitely worth a stop. Not quite as nice as Nevada rhyolite, but not bad at all. The day was rainy and cloudy, which really brought out the color in the rocks. It was also seal calving season. Seals everywhere. The white sands on the left were closed - lots of seals giving birth. This seal pup is only an hour or so old. The seal on the left is about to give birth, only to be harassed by a couple seagulls. This gull spent most of it's time pecking at the calf's rear flippers, much to the consternation of mom. Seagulls must be more closely related to Cairn Terriers than I originally thought. This is the hotel we stayed at, looking east from Point Lobos. A stone house on the beach. Plan to spend several hours here - on a nice day. |
