The
very cool spring really helped getting new starts going, everywhere
except for the wild flower patch. So, the wild flower patch
is
now surrounded with 3' chickenwire on the sides and bird netting on top
to keep out poodles, cairns and quail. There is probably over 1/2 ounce
of seeds in there so something
new ought to grow. |

Cloudy
days seem to work well in conjunction with photography around here -
knocks down the glare. This rose is Jan's Wedding - supposed
to
be a marginal Zone 5 but acts like a Zone 3. |

We
decided to head out to Stillwater, a bit south and east of Fallon, NV
because we heard they made some improvements. Along the way
we
stopped at the Carson river. Not much to look at but pictured
on
the right is an Elderberry bush, and there were more scattered around.
I don't know if they are native or naturalized, but there were quite a
few of them. |

This is a new
walking path where you can get out to the marsh for a closer view.
This is a Barn Owl nesting box. |

Yellow
Headed Black Birds love the marsh areas and there were
probably
hundreds of them. The male is on the left and the female on
the
right. The males appear somewhat territorial and are not
easily
frightened. |

A
nice shelter for having a picnic was erected. Unfortunately,
the
picnic tables are covered with Cliff Swallow droppings. I
think
some re-engineering needs to be done. Cliff Swallows love the
place. |

There
were scores of YHBB's foraging along the water's edge.
A view of the
marsh. |

Meanwhile
back home everyone was resting peacefully..........for a while. |
